World Water Month: 6 nonprofits making waves.

Water. It's the most important resource we have—vital for hydration, hygiene, and life. And it must be protected.

According to the World Wildlife Federation, only 2.5% of water is freshwater —and so much of life hinges on that small amount. That’s why we’re proud to partner with 1% for the Planet in supporting the real water heroes—organizations working to provide access to clean water, empowering water advocates across the globe, and helping to protect our natural resources and environments.

To celebrate  UNESCO's World Water Day on March 22nd, we’re highlighting a few of these organizations to bring awareness to their work, missions, and success. Read on to learn more about our water heroes and why we love to support them.

Clean water and sanitation heroes.

Not everyone has access to safe, clean water. 2.2 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water, and half of the population does not have access to proper sanitation. This is the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, or WASH crisis, and we can all do our part to help.

Here are two organizations taking on the WASH crisis in communities around the world.

World Toilet Organization

Since 2001, the global nonprofit  World Toilet Organization has been improving and advocating for safer toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. Their annual World Toilet Summit provides an international platform for toileting advocates to exchange knowledge and promote clean sanitation and public health policies.

WaterAid America

For over four decades,  WaterAid America has helped vulnerable communities with access to clean water through the funding of sanitation and hygiene projects. Their work has impacted millions of people in communities across the globe.

Water advocacy heroes.

Environmental change is powered by passionate individuals working to make a difference. Water advocates play a key role in helping communities get access to clean water, improving water infrastructure, and protecting our natural resources.

Here are two organizations that empower and connect advocates to make waves in their communities.

Awareness 360

Established in Malaysia,  Awareness 360 is an organization created by and for passionate youths. They empower young leaders to organize and launch community service projects, speak out for clean water causes, and impact positive societal change across the globe.

River Network

Since 1988,  River Network has worked to expand national interest in protecting US waters. They serve as the backbone of a national network of water advocates, strengthening individuals and communities in their mission to protect our waterways.

Ecosystem conservation heroes.

Water makes up about  71% of the surface of the globe, providing invaluable habitats and drinking water for humans and animals alike. Our ecosystems rely on water, and we are so grateful for the people who work to protect it.

Here are two organizations dedicated to maintaining the aquatic ecosystems we know and love.

Ocean Rescue Alliance

Uniting research experts and passionate volunteers, Ocean Rescue Alliance is an international nonprofit dedicated to enhancing marine environments and restoring ecosystems. Their Artificial Reef program combines functional art and science-backed research to help rebuild struggling marine environments.

Surfrider SF

As part of a greater national network,  Surfrider SF is dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans and preserving their natural beauty for everyone to enjoy. They work to impact plastic reduction, beach access, climate issues, and water sustainability.

Together, we can make a splash.

Every day, these water heroes fight to preserve the aquatic sources that we rely on for hydration, recreation, and wildlife preservation. Here’s how you can get involved to support these organizations and their missions:

  • Donate to the 1% for the Planet Network. Each of the nonprofits we’ve highlighted are members, and your donation helps them and other organizations worldwide in making a positive impact on our planet.
  • Shop purposefully with our 1% for the Planet product partnership. Proceeds from each purchase of our select bidet attachments go toward this global network.
  • Stay up to date on our partnerships and environmental impact by signing up for our email newsletters and following Brondell on social media.

Everyone deserves access to clean water—and a brighter future. Together, we can ensure that our precious resource is protected and available for future generations.
